Look into the magic mirror and get enchanted by the natural beauty of the Wachau. The 30 km long landscape is located between the ancient town Melk with its world famous Abbey on the right bank and Krems on the left bank of the Danube river. It is one of the most beautiful landscapes of Austria.In 2000 the wachau was inscribed as “Wachau Cultural Landscape* in the UNESCO List of World Heritage.

Picturesque vineyards and apricot are typical of this area and let every heart beat faster.

Already in the stone age the former inhabitants did appreciate the beauty of Wachau. Excavations indicate a settlement in prehistoric times.Well known is “The Venus of Willendor”f, an 11 cm female figure estimated to have been made between 22,000 and 21,000 BCE.

In the Middle Ages the Kuenringer built on magnificent cliffs or in the solitude of Dunkelsteinerwald their mighty castles. The castles Aggstein and Schönbühel perched majestically on the right bank of the danube.

Mythical stories are told and they bring back ancient times to the present.

A tourist attraction is Dürnstein where King Richard the Lionheart of Englang was held captive by Duke Leopold V.

In the silence if you go walking maybe you can hear the singing of the singer Blondel in search of the king ...

Speaking of silence. In the Dunkelsteiner wood there are beautiful hiking routes and you can forget stress for a long time..

Or would you prefer to go by bike on a discovery trip? For this, very well-developed cycle routes are at your disposal. A trip with the modern and comfortable electric bike is an unforgettable experience. Several ferries will take you effortlessly from one to the other bank of the Danube.

After termination of your journey, your walk or your bike-riding it is very nice to visite a “Heurigen”. A Wachauer-Heuriger” is a local wine tavern where you can enjoy a glass of wine and typical delicacies of the Wachau.
